In February of 2018, Exlterra partnered with a well-established citrus grower in the beautiful hills of Rancho Santa Fe, California. A lemon parcel has been selected where trees struggled to produce strong lemons; the lemons that grew during the summer months in this parcel were not passing purchasing standards and would not be picked. The primary issue for these lemons was the absence of a pith column running through their center.
Exlterra installed NEPS around 32 trees in this parcel with the goal of observing the differences between NEPS and non-NEPS trees over time. During the last visit on August 29th, 2019, exactly 18 months after the NEPS installation, some very powerful changes have already been observed. Trees with NEPS have more foliage and better colorations, and lemons from these trees are juicy, tart, and have very fine aromas; They are also significantly larger and contain the pith column, making them commercial grade again, thus increasing harvest from 2 to 3 times a year.
